Detectives are investigating three separate reports of assaults that were called in on Wednesday morning on Great Mills Road near St. Mary’s Square and the South Coral Drive areas.

The attacks resulted in minor injuries, with one person being taken to an area hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Deputies were actively canvassing the area as of noon on Nov. 6 as they search for a suspect described as being a Black man wearing a gray sweatshirt or long-sleeved gray shirt, riding a bicycle, and carrying a metal rod or object.

At 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, the sheriff's office said that a suspect matching the description has been detained.

Residents and motorists have been advised to avoid the area due to the heavy police presence. Anyone who sees someone on a bike carrying a pole or large cylindrical object has been advised to call 911 immediately.

More information is expected to be released.

This is a developing story.
